- 125 litres of formalin-contaminated milk destroyed in Patna raid.

A Food Safety Department raid in Patna on Friday led to the destruction of 125 litres of milk after formalin was detected in it during testing. The contaminated milk was poured down the drain on the spot.
The team, led by Food Safety Officer Sudama Kumar, tested the milk during the raid. According to department officials, using formalin to preserve milk can be harmful to health.
The department also raided a food supplement manufacturing unit in Barispur, Fatuha, and collected six samples of calcium-containing products. Food Safety Officer Dr Sudin Kumar said the supplements are suspected to contain ingredients that could be harmful to health.
All six samples will be sent to a laboratory on Saturday, with the test report expected in around 14 days. Further action will be taken against the factory based on the report.
Meanwhile, small shopkeepers have questioned the Food Safety Department's frequent raids, alleging that inspections appear to focus more on small shops and businesses while larger establishments have not faced similar action for a long time.
They said food safety inspections should be conducted across establishments of all sizes to ensure that the enforcement drive does not appear discriminatory. They also urged the department to regularly inspect larger establishments if action against food adulteration is being carried out.
