An incident of assault was reported in Delhi after an Uber driver allegedly assaulted a woman and twisted her arm. The woman, identified as Bharati Chaturvedi, founder of Chintan, an Environmental Research and Action Group, allegedly called Uber safety as well as Delhi Police by dialling 100, but allegedly did not receive any support from either of them. Chaturvedi managed to reach her destination after sustaining a minor arm injury.
In her official X (formerly Twitter) account and her official LinkedIn account, she narrated the entire incident. On Wednesday, November 26, afternoon, Chaturvedi booked an Uber from Vasant Vihar to Sarvodaya Enclave to visit a doctor. The driver allegedly stopped far from the drop location. When the passenger asked him to continue with the ride, he began getting irritated and yelled at her and then suddenly whizzed passed the drop point.
“I took an Uber from Vasant Vihar to Sarvodaya Enclave to the doc. The pin stopped near Essex farms, and the driver agreed to drop me minus the pin. But began getting irritated and yelling and suddenly turned while I asked him to go straight for a U-turn,” the post on her official X (formerly Twitter) account read.

I took an @Uber_India from Vasant Vihar to sarvodaya enclave to the doc. The pin stopped near Essex farms, driver agreed to drop me minus pin. But began getting irritated and yelling and suddenly turned while i asked him to go straight for a u turn.
Asked…
In her LinkedIn post, Chaturvedi said, “Midway, the driver stopped far from the clinic. I asked him to continue. He drove a few metres, stopped angrily, kept demanding directions, and then suddenly sped past the turn. When I clarified again, he snapped that he wouldn’t ‘keep going straight.’ Moments later, instead of taking a U-turn, he swerved left into an unknown lane, opposite the location. I asked him to stop. He refused and accelerated.
Chaturvedi was visiting the doctor owing to the deplorable air quality due to Delhi Air Pollution, which had triggered her asthma.

Responding to the entire incident, DCP South Delhi confirmed that the matter had been taken into cognisance. “A DM has been sent to you for additional details. Appropriate legal action shall be initiated based on the findings,” the post further read.
Uber India support has also reached out to her and termed the Uber driver’s behaviour ‘concerning’. “Please share your specific trip with date and time of the trip and registered contact details associated with your Uber account via Direct Message. Our safety team will be in touch with you shortly,” the officials added.
Bharati further pointed out to a systemic flaw in the entire system with the operations of the company on her LinkedIn post:
No ability to pause a driver.
No immediate help on the ground.
No protocol to assist a passenger in distress.
No coordination with police.
