JNU Election 2025-26: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi, is conducting its student union elections today, November 4. Students will cast their votes on Tuesday to decide the next leadership of the university. Voting will take place in two sessions, from 9 am to 1 pm and again from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm Counting of votes will begin at 9 pm, and the final results are expected to be announced on November 6.

The JNUSU Election Committee had announced the 2025-26 poll schedule on October 23. The election process officially began on October 24 with the release of the provisional voter list. Nomination forms were issued on October 25, and candidates submitted their nominations by October 27. The list of valid candidates was released on October 28, followed by the publication of the final list and a press conference later that evening. A grievance redressal cell has also been set up this month to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

In last year’s elections, Left-backed groups secured three of the four main positions, while the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won the joint secretary post,  its first major win in nearly a decade. This year, the contest remains largely between the Left alliance,  comprising AISA, DSF, and SFI, and the right-wing ABVP.

Left Alliance Candidates:

President: Aditi Mishra

Vice President: Kizhakoot Gopika Babu

General Secretary: Sunil Yadav

Joint Secretary: Danish Ali

ABVP Candidates:

President: Vikas Patel

Vice President: Tanya Kumari

General Secretary: Rajeshwar Kant Dubey

Joint Secretary: Anuj Damara

In total, seven candidates are vying for the President’s post, three for Vice President, five for General Secretary, and five for Joint Secretary. Notably, about 30% of the central panel nominees this year are women.

Despite the removal of posters and slogans from campus walls ahead of polling, the campus atmosphere remains charged with excitement. Tuesday’s election will not only determine the next set of student leaders but also reflect the ideological direction today’s JNU students wish to take.

Apart from the main contest between the Left alliance and ABVP, groups such as NSUI, Progressive Students Association (PSA), Disha Students’ Organization (DSO), and several independent candidates are also in the fray, adding depth to the competition.

During the presidential debate held late Sunday night, six candidates addressed key campus issues including education policy, equality, scholarships, hostel security, and research facilities. The event drew strong participation and spirited discussions, although the Bahujan Azad Party (BAPSA) candidate could not attend due to personal reasons.
