The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is expanding a storage facility for tulips and other plants at a high-tech nursery. A storage room will be constructed at this nursery in Lodhi Garden.
The room, built for Rs 50 lakh, will cover 540 square feet and be able to preserve 2,00,000 tulips. NDMC officials stated that they are eliminating the need to import plants.
Through the high-tech nursery, tulip bulbs, along with other plants, are gradually being preserved. This storage room can be adapted to winter temperatures and can also simulate winter conditions during the summer.
Notably, a storage room for preserving tulip bulbs was constructed in Lodhi Garden in 2023, where used tulip bulbs were prepared for reuse. The NDMC has had great success with this endeavour.
Officials stated that the ambient temperature can be controlled between 2 and 20 degrees Celsius.
