Considering the increasing traffic pressure in Delhi, the construction of a new bridge over the Yamuna for travel between the Yamunapar area and Central Delhi is being seriously considered. It could be built somewhere on the Yamuna between the Signature Bridge and the DND Flyway.

Current Infrastructure And Upcoming Corridors

Currently, there are a total of 25 bridges of all types across the Yamuna in the Delhi region. Of these, nine are for vehicular traffic. These include the Old Wazirabad Bridge, Signature Bridge, Yudhisthir Bridge, Old Iron Bridge, Geeta Colony Bridge, ITO Bridge, Nizamuddin Bridge, DND Flyway, and Kalindi Bridge. Another bridge, in the form of the Barapullah Phase-III elevated corridor, is set to become operational by July this year.

Proposal For Improved Connectivity

The proposal to build this new bridge was put forward by the Yamunapar Development Board during a recent meeting with officials from the Public Works Department. The plan is currently in its initial stages and is under discussion. The government is considering the project to improve transport in the Yamunapar area and to enhance connectivity between North East, North and Central Delhi.
