The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is yet to finalise an agency to operate its first proposed parking facility, which is planned beneath and alongside the flyover and elevated sections of the Delhi-Saharanpur Highway.

NHAI's subsidiary, National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), has extended the application deadline for agencies for the third time. According to sources, this extension is due to an insufficient number of applications received for the selection process. However, NHLML officials have stated that the decision was made because of the festive season.

The project aims to construct a parking facility with a capacity for 1,000 vehicles on vacant land near Delhi's Gandhi Nagar Market, which is famous for ready-made garments. Three locations have been identified for the facility:

- Under and beside the elevated section opposite Gandhi Nagar Market.

- In Geeta Colony.

- Under the flyover near the East District Magistrate's office.

- NHLML, which has been entrusted by NHAI to develop the facility, has already determined the parking fees.

The parking facilities will feature modern technology, including automatic gates at the entrance and exit. Payments will be processed exclusively via FASTag. A display board will be installed to show the number of occupied and vacant spaces in real-time.

Strict restrictions will be enforced. Goods-laden light commercial vehicles (tempos), auto-rickshaws (autos), taxis, and trucks will not be permitted to park in the facility. Additionally, the operating agency will be prohibited from leasing out parking lanes in bulk to vehicle showroom owners for the purpose of parking new vehicles.
