For the first time in history, the Delhi Police will use AI-powered smart glasses to manage security arrangements for Republic Day in the national capital. According to officials, these smart glasses are equipped with Facial Recognition Software (FRS) and thermal imaging capabilities, allowing officers to identify suspects in real-time in crowded areas without stopping individuals. Manufactured by an Indian company, these devices will be directly linked to a police database containing records of criminals, proclaimed offenders, and other suspects.

Real-Time Database Integration And Alert System

According to reports, these glasses will work in tandem with mobile phones provided to police personnel. When used to scan a person, the system will match the facial data with records stored in the database. A green indicator signifies that the person has no criminal record, while a red alert flags individuals with a known criminal history. This will enable authorities to take immediate action if necessary.

Advanced Capabilities: Speed And Aging Algorithms

Officials stated that this technology can scan faces in seconds, eliminating the need for physical checks and helping to maintain smooth crowd movement along the Republic Day parade route and surrounding areas. The system is capable of identifying a person even if their appearance has changed over the years by comparing live images with old photographs.

Thermal Imaging For Hidden Threats

In addition to facial recognition, the smart glasses feature thermal imaging capabilities that can help detect hidden metal objects or potential weapons. This will serve as an additional layer of security, especially in dense crowds where visual inspection alone is not effective.

Operational Protocol: Official Statement

Additional CP Mahla told PTI, "The glasses are connected to the officers' mobile phones, and the mobile phones will contain the complete database of criminals. If someone appears in a green box, it clearly means that the person has no criminal record. If the box turns red, it means the person has a criminal record. Officers can check all details immediately and if necessary, the person will be arrested instantly."

Field Deployment By Security Personnel

Officials confirmed that sub-inspectors and other field officers will use the smart glasses during the ceremony. However, they did not disclose the number of devices purchased or the cost involved, stating only that a sufficient number of devices would be deployed for the event.
