What Is Sakat Chauth?
Sakat Chauth also called Sankashti Chaturthi or Tilkut Chauth, falls on the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of the Magh month. Devotees dedicate the day to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Sakat (Sankat Mata), seeking blessings to remove obstacles, ensure well-being and safeguard their loved ones, according to Drik Panchang (Hindu calendar). The fast symbolises devotion, patience and faith, and is traditionally broken after moon sighting in the evening.

According to the Vedic calendar, the Chaturthi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Magha begins at 8:01 am on January 6 and ends at 6:52 am on January 7. Therefore, the Sakat Chauth fast is being observed today.

In Delhi, the moon is expected to rise at around 8:54 pm, signalling the right time to perform moon worship and break the fast.
