A crucial piece of evidence has emerged in the investigation of the Red Fort blast, confirming that the incident was a calculated suicide attack rather than an accidental explosion. A video of the perpetrator, Dr Umar Nabi Butt, a terrorist associated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), surfaced on social media on Tuesday morning, revealing the extent of his radicalisation.
The 'Martyrdom' Video
The undated video, recorded by Dr Umar himself prior to the attack, provides insight into his ideology and intent. In the footage, he appears calm and composed, speaking in English with a distinct accent. Investigating agencies believe this video was used to brainwash young recruits for fidayeen (suicide) missions.
Justification of Violence: Umar attempts to dismantle the concept of "suicide bombing," arguing that it is a misconception. He states, "It is martyrdom... which is known in Islam. There are many contradictions in this, many arguments have been made against it."
Distorted Theology: He argues that while suicide is haram (forbidden) in Islam, a 'shahadat' (martyrdom) campaign is different because the individual accepts that their death will occur at a specific place and time. He claims that if death is written in destiny, it will happen regardless, urging people not to fear it.
Crucial Evidence: This video serves as definitive proof that the attack on the evening of November 10 was entirely pre-meditated. It refutes earlier speculation that the blast occurred accidentally while explosives were being transported.
The Rise Of 'White-Collar' Terrorism
The investigation has exposed a disturbing new face of terrorism in India: the recruitment of highly educated professionals.
The Network: The Jammu and Kashmir Police recently stated that they had dismantled an interstate and international terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
