Darkest Night Of The Year: Diwali 2025 will be celebrated on October 20th. It is one of the biggest Indian festivals of India regarded as the festival of lights. However, do you know that Diwali is actually celebrated on the darkest night of the Hindu calendar? Diwali night falls on the Kartik month (between October and November) of Amavasya, also known as the new moon night, which is considered the darkest night because the moon is not visible in the sky. The darkness of night highlights the negativity and evil that dominate the world, and the festival of lights, which is Diwali, we light diyas as they indicate the victory of good over evil. This darkest night of Diwali has great significance in Hindu mythology. It is said that Diwali was the homecoming of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. The day symbolises the victory of God Rama over the demon king Ravana. On the holy occasion, people of Ayodhya lit oil lamps to celebrate their King Rama’s victory by lighting diyas and dispelling the darkness of night, and that is how Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights.
