Which Indian Train Runs Without An Engine: Indian Railways is known as one of the country's lifelines. It boasts some of the most unique and modern trains in the world and transports millions of passengers daily. However, did you know that there are trains in India that don't have their own engines? Many people are surprised by this fact because they typically assume that trains have a locomotive pulling all of the coaches. A contemporary train that operates without a traditional engine at the front has been introduced by Indian Railways, though.
Instead, it has a unique design that enables it to travel more quickly, save time and provide passengers with a comfortable journey. How does India's first engineless train operate?

How Does It Work Without an Engine?
Unlike regular trains, where a locomotive pulls all the coaches, Vande Bharat uses a distributed power system.
Every coach has electric traction motors fitted under it. This makes the train self-propelled and eliminates the need for a separate engine. Because of this system, the train can accelerate and decelerate quickly, saving travel time. It also improves safety and provides better balance while running at high speed.
Features of Vande Bharat Express
1. High Speed– Runs at a maximum speed of 180 km/h (operational speed around 130–160 km/h).
2. Comfortable Interiors – Automatic doors, LED lighting, and aircraft-style seating.
3. Modern Facilities – Wi-Fi, infotainment screens, bio-vacuum toilets.
4. Energy Efficient– Uses regenerative braking, which saves electricity.
5. Safety – Equipped with “Kavach,” an advanced train protection system.
