Interesting Facts about Hanuman Chalisa:  The Hanuman Chalisa is a 16th-century Hindu devotional poem written by Gosvami Tulsidas in the praises of Lord Hanuman. As per the famous claim, the Hanuman Chalisa has a verse, which is known to reveal the distance from Earth to the Sun. The famous verse reads as Yuga Sahasra Yojana. As per spiritual translation, the lines refer to the distance that Hanuman jumped towards the Sun, believing it to be a fruit.

Let’s try to break the phrase as per its claimed translation. People say a Yoga is a period or era in Hindu cosmology, which is said to be equivalent to approximately 12,000 years. While Sahstra means thousand, and one Yojana is equivalent to an old unit of measurement, approximately calculated as 8 miles.

If we multiply all three units (12,000 × 1,000 × 8), this results in a rough distance of 96,000,000 miles. Translated into kilometres (by multiplication of 1.6 km per mile), this is roughly 153,600,000 km. Same way, modern science estimates the mean distance from the Sun to Earth at approximately 149,600,000 km, placing the figure in the Hanuman Chalisa amazingly near with an error margin of around 1-2 per .

This surprising closeness to true astronomical observations has fascinated many across the globe to the extent that it has been suggested that the Hanuman Chalisa has contained scientific information for centuries now, and ahead of contemporary astronomy. Some argue this is merely a coincidence or the result of using modern interpretation upon a devotional poem written entirely in a symbolic way to praise Lord Hanumana and there is nothing more to it.

In short, it is not incorrect that the Hanuman Chalisa has a line which, if read with historic translations of historic units, gives a value very close to the Earth-Sun distance today. But if this information is a genuine piece of ancient scientific information or not is a matter for debate, but the coincidence is most intriguing and reminds us about the timeless rivalry between spirituality and science.
