The Bihar government made an announcement regarding a 10 percent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the state's judicial services, as well as in government-run law colleges and universities on Tuesday, October 3. This announcement followed closely after the release of the first data from the state's caste survey. The decision was reached during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, according to a report from the news agency PTI.
“The cabinet approved amendments in the guidelines of the State Judicial Services, 1951, allowing 10 per cent reservation for EWS category in judicial services and also in state-run law institutes and universities,” said S Siddhartha, Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat) as quoted by PTI.
A detailed notification in this regard will soon be issued by the department concerned, Siddhartha added.
According to the data, it has been revealed that the Extremely Backward Communities (EBCs) make up approximately 36.01 per cent of the population, with an additional 27.12 per cent constituting the Backward Classes.
The state cabinet also approved the construction of 100 veterinary hospitals in the state, Siddhartha said. “A total of 100 first-class veterinary hospitals will be constructed in different districts of the state. Besides, there will be training centers at all these hospitals. For this, Rs 225 crore will be spent in 17 districts,” he said.
The state cabinet also nodded in favour of creation of 30 additional clerk posts for handling matters related to the Consumers Affairs Department, Siddhartha said.
