Bihar Private School Reforms:  The government of Bihar has announced a set of strict reforms aimed at regulating private schools and improving transparency in their functioning. The decision comes after repeated complaints from parents regarding arbitrary fee hikes and mandatory purchases of school materials from selected vendors.

Announcing the decision on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described the reform as a major step toward transparency and accountability.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to keep close monitoring of private educational institutions and ensure strict compliance with the new guidelines. He warned that any violation of these directives will attract strict administrative action.

Mandatory Fee Disclosure:

Under the new framework introduced by the Bihar government, all private schools will now be required to publicly disclose the complete details of their fee structure. Authorities say this move aims to prevent arbitrary increases in tuition, annual, and transport fees that many parents have complained about in recent years.

Officials noted that several schools had been raising fees by nearly 10 per cent annually without adequate justification. With the new rules in place, schools must clearly display all charges so that parents can easily understand the financial requirements before admission.

Freedom to Buy Books and Uniforms:

In a significant relief for parents, private schools will no longer be allowed to force students to purchase books, stationery, or uniforms from specific vendors or shops. Parents will now have the freedom to buy these items from any store of their choice.

The government believes this measure will reduce unnecessary financial pressure on families, as many schools previously sold materials at higher prices through authorised vendors within school campuses.

Protection for Students:

The state government has also made it clear that no student should suffer academically because of pending fee payments. Schools will not be allowed to stop students from appearing in examinations or withhold their results due to unpaid fees.
