CAT 2024 Exam: The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) will finish CAT 2024 registration tomorrow, September 13. Interested and eligible applicants can complete the CAT 2024 registration form by going to the official website of IIM CAT at iimcat.ac.in. The CAT 2024 admit card will be distributed on November 4.
Applicants must pay an application fee to finish the CAT 2024 registration process. The registration cost for CAT 2024 is Rs 2,500 for General, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates and Rs 1,250 for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Person with Disabilities (PwD) applicants.
CAT 2024: Exam pattern and date
The CAT 2024 examination will be conducted on November 24. The CAT 2024 exam will be administered in three shifts: 8:30 am to 10:30 am, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The CAT 2024 exam will be taken online.
The CAT 2024 exam will consist of three sections: verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC), data interpretation and logical reasoning (DILR), and quantitative aptitude (QA). There will be 66 questions in the CAT 2024 paper. According to the CAT 2024 marking structure, applicants will receive three marks for each valid answer and one mark for each erroneous response. There will be no negative grading for wrong responses.
CAT 2024: Selection process at IIMs
After the CAT results are released, each IIM creates a shortlist based on the CAT scores and other criteria. The shortlisting procedure differs slightly for each IIM, but often includes:

- CAT Cut-off: Applicants must reach the minimal percentile cut-offs for each part and the overall CAT score. The cut-off varies by IIM and category. Most IIMs place a high value on the CAT score, usually between 30 and 50 per cent.
- Academic Record: Class 10, 12, and graduation grades will be considered.
- Work Experience: Many IIMs assess job experience, with a preference for individuals with appropriate expertise, generally in managerial or technical roles.
- Written Ability Test (WAT): A written test in which applicants are expected to produce an essay on a specific topic. The piece of writing could be about current events, abstract themes, or business-related issues. This level evaluates an applicant's capacity to explain their ideas, formulate an argument, and communicate effectively in writing.
- Group Discussion (GD): Some IIMs hold group discussions in which a group of applicants discuss a topic assigned by the panel. The topics of debate could include business, politics, economics, and social issues. It assesses a candidate's communication abilities, teamwork, leadership, and ability to explain their arguments effectively.
- Personal Interview (PI): A panel of teachers and industry experts conducts a personal interview with each candidate. The interview could centre on your background, career ambitions, motivation for getting an MBA, awareness of current events, academics, job experience, and extracurricular activities.
