CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations concluded at 1:30 PM today. On the first day, Class 10 students appeared for Mathematics Basic and Mathematics Standard, while Class 12 candidates for Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, Engineering Graphics, and Business Studies.

As per Shaifali Bhatt, HOD Maths, DPS Sector 45, Gurugram, the Class X Mathematics examination, both Standard (041) and Basic (241), conducted on 17th February 2026, was well-structured and strictly aligned with the NCERT curriculum. The paper was balanced in terms of difficulty level and ensured fair coverage of concepts across units. Importantly, no questions were asked outside the prescribed syllabus, which offered reassurance to students who had prepared diligently through NCERT and classroom practice.

The level of the Basic Mathematics paper was comparable to the Standard Mathematics paper, maintaining consistency in structure and conceptual clarity. Overall, the examination assessed students’ understanding and application skills effectively without being unpredictable or ambiguous, she added.

Rupali  Sharma said, "The overall difficulty level of the paper was easy. I had practised previous years' question papers and found the pattern to be similar to last year's. The questions were asked based on the syllabus. The sets of Maths question papers were Set 1, 2, and 3. Section B carried 2 mark questions, Section C carried 3 mark questions, Section D carried 5 mark questions and Section E carried 4 mark questions."

Rahul said, "The difficulty level of the paper was easy. There were five sections in the paper. Section A carried 20 MCQ questions. Section B carried reason-based questions of two marks each. Section C carried a short question of three marks. Section D carried 5-mark questions. Section E carried 4-mark questions. There was no change in the pattern."

Initial reactions from students who took the exam indicate that the paper was a bit difficult, but required careful time management. While many students found the questions familiar and straightforward, the size of the paper tested their speed and courage.

A common refrain among test takers was, "It wasn't difficult, but it was tricky." This echoes educators' observations—that students often lose marks not because they don't know the syllabus, but because CBSE distorts familiar questions or makes minor mistakes while solving them.

A student from Noida shared her experience, "The questions were from the syllabus, and nothing was out of the box. But the paper was quite long. I could have attempted all the questions, but I had to complete the last section very quickly."

1. Early feedback suggests the CBSE Class 10 Mathematics Basic (241) paper was rated medium to difficult, focusing strongly on conceptual clarity and application-based understanding rather than direct formula use.

2. The question paper had five sections, including MCQs, assertion-reasoning, short, long, and case-based questions, ensuring a balanced mix of knowledge and higher-order thinking skills.

3. Section A was slightly challenging, as MCQs and reasoning questions required strong fundamentals and careful analysis.

Initial feedback from teachers and math experts suggests that the math paper was, overall, fairly easy. Some of the questions were competency-based, requiring a deeper understanding of concepts rather than memorization.

CBSE has issued a clarification regarding the Class 10 board examinations starting from 2026, in which the first board examination will be introduced. In response to requests from students seeking permission to appear directly for the second board examination for essential reasons, CBSE has clarified eligibility rules.

Key points of the CBSE clarification include:

Mandatory First Examination: All students must appear for the first board examination.

Improvement Opportunity: Passed and eligible students can improve their scores in up to 3 subjects, including science, mathematics, social science, and languages.

"Essential Repeat" Category: Students who fail to appear in three or more subjects in the first examination will not be allowed to appear for the second board examination. These students will be placed in the "Essential Repeat" category and will only be able to appear for the main examination, scheduled for February next year.

Compartment Category: Students whose first exam result is "Compartment" will be allowed to appear for the second exam under the compartment category.

No Additional Subjects: After passing Class 10, students cannot take any additional subjects.

CBSE has announced new changes for the CBSE Class 10 exam 2026. Starting this year, the board will conduct the CBSE Class 10 exam in two phases. The second phase will begin on May 15 and run until June 1, 2026.

Science and Social Science question papers will be divided into separate sections. Candidates must answer according to the assigned sections; their answer sheets will not be evaluated.

CBSE has released the important exam guidelines related to class 10, 12 board examinations 2026, which are as follows: 

1. The doors of the examination hall will open 45 minutes before the exam time

2. Students take their seats 30 minutes before the beginning of the exam

3. Those arriving late will not be allowed to enter the exam hall

4. Students must bring a pen, pencil and ink

5. Electronic items are not allowed inside the exam hall

6. Students need to sit as per the roll numbers

7. Candidates are not allowed to leave the exam hall before the completion of the test

For the 2026 exams, CBSE has introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer books, while Class 10 evaluation will continue in the traditional physical mode. Teachers have been asked to complete practice sessions on the digital evaluation platform starting February 16 to ensure their preparation. Login credentials will be provided through registered email IDs, and activity will be monitored during the practice period.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has advised students to reach their examination centres well in advance, keeping traffic conditions in mind. Entry to examination centres will close sharply at 10 AM. The exams will be conducted in a single shift from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
