CBSE Class 10th Marking Scheme: Theory and Internal Assessment:

The CBSE Class 10 marking scheme for 2025 is structured to evaluate students comprehensively, combining theoretical knowledge with practical and internal assessments. Each subject carries a total of 100 marks, divided into 80 marks for the theory exam and 20 marks for the internal assessment.

The internal assessment includes periodic tests (10 marks), notebook submissions (5 marks), and subject enrichment activities (5 marks). This distribution ensures that students are assessed not only on their academic performance but also on their regularity, assignments, and practical skills. The grading system follows a nine-point scale, providing grades alongside marks to offer a holistic evaluation of student performance.

Competency-Based Questions: Focus on Critical Thinking

CBSE has increased the weightage of competency-based questions in the Class 10 exams, raising it from 40% to 50% for the 2025 session. These questions are designed to test students' analytical and problem-solving skills rather than rote memorization. For example, subjects like Mathematics emphasize practical applications of algebra and trigonometry, while Science focuses on real-world scenarios involving concepts like Light and Electricity. Social Science integrates case studies and map-based questions to assess comprehension.

This shift aims to prepare students for higher education and real-life challenges by fostering critical thinking.

CBSE Grading System: Understanding Student Performance

The CBSE grading system for Class 10 evaluates students on a five-point scale ranging from Grade A (highest) to Grade E (failed candidates). Grades are awarded based on percentile ranks rather than cumulative scores, ensuring fairness in assessment. For instance, Grade A-1 is given to the top eighth percentile of passed candidates, while Grade E indicates failure.

This system eliminates overall divisions or distinctions, focusing instead on subject-specific grades. Additionally, students who fail in up to two subjects are eligible for compartment exams, providing them an opportunity to improve their scores.
