In a landmark initiative to enhance Indian education in the UAE, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has inaugurated its first Regional Office (RO) and Centre of Excellence (CoE) outside India, located in Dubai.
The milestone was celebrated with a special orientation session on Teachers' Day, attended by CBSE officials, representatives from the Indian Mission in Dubai, and principals from 78 schools across Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The session served as a platform to discuss the objectives, scope, and expected impact of the new office.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the opening of the CBSE RO & CoE in Dubai on February 13, 2024, during his visit to the UAE. The office officially began operations on July 2, 2024, at the Consulate General of India, Dubai, UAE.
During the orientation, Dr Ram Shankar, Director of CBSE RO & CoE in Dubai, provided a comprehensive overview of the board's mission in the region. He outlined the board’s key objectives, including its commitment to outcome-based education and enhancing teaching methods.
Dr Shankar highlighted that CBSE would implement a model focused on outcome-based learning, offering subjects at various levels to accommodate different student abilities. The board will also advocate for art-integrated learning and health education as part of a more holistic educational approach, alongside introducing new skill subjects aligned with global educational trends.
The CBSE Regional Office is involved in several assessment reforms aimed at making education more competency-based and student-friendly. This includes the introduction of case-based and competency-focused questions, strengthening internal assessments, and developing Annual Pedagogical Plans. The board is also promoting experiential learning through innovative methods such as sports, storytelling, and toy-based learning.
The new office in Dubai will oversee examinations in the region, while the Centre of Excellence will concentrate on in-service teacher training, providing educators with the latest skills and knowledge to keep pace with educational innovations and global teaching methodologies.
