As strong cyclonic storm Michaung loomed over the north coastal parts of Tamil Nadu on Monday, Chennai city and surrounding districts were hit hard by constant rains. Cyclone Michuang-led rains, landslides, and other meteorological calamities have officially claimed seven lives.

Andhra Pradesh is also on high alert, along with Tamil Nadu, since weather forecasters have cautioned that Cyclone Michaung's storm is anticipated to landfall in the state today, December 5.

Many parts of Chennai and the districts of Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur have been submerged, in spite of the government machinery being deployed to clear the stagnant water and floodwaters. Cyclonic storm Michaung is expected to cross the coast in Andhra Pradesh tomorrow, bringing in heavy rainfall in Chennai and Puducherry.
