Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University on Sunday, aimed at benefiting students across Sanskrit schools, colleges, and universities in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the media, he expressed gratitude for the launch of the scholarship just ahead of Diwali, emphasising its significance for both the language and the country’s cultural heritage. "I want to thank everyone for launching the scholarship scheme right before the ceremonies of Diwali. This launch is very important for the language and the culture of the country. The togetherness that we have witnessed here is the urge of the people to celebrate the language and if one wants to understand Sanskrit, one must immerse in its essence. When one establishes a connection with God in devotion, they can comprehend the energy of Sanskrit," he said, as reported by news agency ANI.
He further noted that, despite Sanskrit often being seen as a lesser-known language, people have continued to uphold its traditions.
"I have always been shocked to know how Sanskrit has been an unknown language among people but some students have continued the tradition of following it. However, in 2017, the language got the respect it deserved and now we have all noticed the rise in the number of students learning the language. Today, the scheme launched for the language has a limit on it and I am very happy that we have had the chance to do this. With this ceremony before Diwali, we are connecting with the ancient university named after Dr Sampurnanand. Every institution should work hard on making the scheme available to all students," the CM added.
The CM added that Uttar Pradesh now has 1.5 lakh students dedicated to learning Sanskrit and preserving the cultural heritage. "The state today has 1.5 lakh students who are learning the Sanskrit language and are devoted to the culture. We want more schools and institutions to open up which will promote the message of learning Sanskrit among the students."
