The Delhi government's Department of Education (DoE) published a notice on November 12 stating that the admissions procedure for nursery, kindergarten, and first grade in the city's private schools for the 2025-26 academic year will begin on November 28.
According to the notice, the deadline for submitting registration forms is December 20, and the first general admission lists will be published on January 17, 2025. Many schools identify neighbourhood, distance, and closeness to schools as significant factors, with other criteria including girl child, single girl child, siblings, and single parents.
Some schools have also established eligibility requirements for Sikh and Christian minorities, economically disadvantaged populations and parents with physical disabilities. Some schools have additionally identified localities and sectors in the list. Private unaided accredited schools are required to reserve 25% of their seats for pupils from Economically Disadvantaged Sections (EWS), Disadvantaged Groups (DG), and children with impairments. The circular claimed that separate admittance lists would be provided for these categories.
According to the circular, the minimum age for entrance is three years for nursery, four years for kindergarten, and five years for Class 1 as of March 31, 2025. The upper age restriction is less than four years for nursery, less than five years for kindergarten, and fewer than six years for Class 1. According to the circular, obtaining a prospectus is optional, and a registration fee of Rs 25 may be imposed.
