Delhi School News Today:  The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has mandated hybrid classes for students up to Class 9 and Class 11 in response to stage four restrictions of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), prompted by deteriorating air quality in the city.

Following forecasts by the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology predicting an imminent breach of the 400 AQI mark, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directed Delhi-NCR authorities to swiftly enforce all stage 3 and 4 measures.

"All heads of government, government-aided, unaided private schools under DoE, NDMC, MCD, and the Delhi Cantonment Board are directed to conduct hybrid classes for students up to Class 9 and 11, wherever online learning is feasible, effective immediately until further notice," reads the circular.

Schools Closed in Gautam Buddh Nagar for Two Days

In view of unfavorable weather conditions, all schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar have been directed to remain closed for students of Classes 1 to 8. The order was issued by the District Basic Education Officer.

According to the official notification, schools will be shut on January 16 and 17, 2025, prioritising the safety and well-being of students. Authorities have emphasised strict compliance with the directive.

GRAP Stage 4 Reimposed as Pollution Levels Rise

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reintroduced measures under Stage III ("Severe Air Quality") and Stage IV ("Severe+ Air Quality") of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), alongside ongoing Stage I and II actions. These measures aim to curb further deterioration of air quality, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) threatening to breach the critical 400 mark.

Stage IV restrictions include a complete ban on construction activities, the entry of non-essential polluting trucks into Delhi, and mandatory hybrid classes for students, excluding those in Classes 10 and 12. Additionally, non-essential diesel trucks are barred from entering Delhi, while Delhi-registered BS-IV and older diesel-heavy goods vehicles are prohibited, except for essential services.

GRAP regulations are enforced during winters in the Delhi-NCR region and classify air quality into four categories: Stage I (Poor, AQI 201-300), Stage II (Very Poor, AQI 301-400), Stage III (Severe, AQI 401-450), and Stage IV (Severe Plus, AQI above 450).
