Schools Implement Indoor Learning & Mask Mandates: Amid rising air pollution in the capital Delhi, school administrations have begun taking steps to protect children. Government and private schools have issued advisories regarding pollution control for children as part of their winter action plan.

To balance children's health and education, schools are implementing indoor learning environments, mandatory mask requirements, and clean air clubs. All schools have completely suspended outdoor morning assemblies. Many private schools, with the help of parents, have also installed air purifiers at the classroom level.

School Officials Detail Safety Measures and Protocols:

Mamta V. Bhatnagar, Director of Manav Sthali School in New Rajendra Nagar, stated that all classrooms have air purifiers that run during school hours. Children are also being taught not to share masks, water bottles, or lunch boxes and to ensure a nutritious diet.

Priyanka Gulati, Principal of Evergreen Public School in IP Extension, stated that outdoor activities have been suspended and indoor sports and creative games are being promoted to maintain children's energy and enthusiasm.

Richa Sharma, Principal of Ramjas School in RK Puram, stated that the school's Eco Club is taking necessary steps to combat air pollution. All students and staff have been advised to wear masks, and outdoor activities have been limited.

Mindfulness And Hygiene Replace Outdoor Sports:

Parents and teachers have been urged to carpool to reduce vehicle emissions. Outdoor games are now being replaced by indoor games, exercises, and mindfulness activities during play periods, especially on days when air quality is extremely poor.

Sudha Acharya, Principal of ITL Public School in Dwarka, stated that prayer meetings and yoga sessions are being conducted inside classrooms, not on the grounds, to prevent children from being exposed to polluted air. Children have been advised to wear masks and follow hygiene rules.

Several government schools under the Delhi government have also taken strict measures. The principal of a government school stated that water sprinklers are being regularly operated to reduce dust on the school campus.

To protect both the mental and physical health of children, sports activities are now being replaced with yoga, music, dance, and mindfulness activities. She further stated that teachers have also been instructed to educate children on ways to prevent pollution and their responsibility towards the environment.
