First State Education Survey: The first State Education Achievement Survey (SEAS) is set to be conducted by PARAKH, the national assessment regulator, on November 3. PARAKH, an organisation operating under the NCERT, stands for performance assessment, review, and analysis of knowledge for holistic development.

This survey aims to assess 11 million students nationwide, identifying areas in need of improvement in the realm of education. Its overarching goal is to establish a common ground for school boards in various states and Union territories.

Structured to boost the educational standards for students in classes 3, 6, and 9, the survey will cover a wide spectrum of competencies, encompassing the foundational, preparatory, and middle stages of education. It will serve as a unique baseline assessment, marking a shift from rote learning to competency-based education.

Competency-based learning fosters the holistic development of students and contributes to nurturing well-rounded growth for future generations. Following the SEAS, the Education Ministry will conduct its annual National Achievement Survey (NAS) at the district level.

"At the heart of this endeavour is the belief that every child deserves a well-rounded education. Our competency-based assessment system aims to assess not just what students know but also how well they can apply that knowledge in real-world scenarios," Indrani Bhaduri, head and CEO of PARAKH said as quoted by news agency PTI.
