GATE Exam 2026: IIT Guwahati is conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, in two shifts. Shift 1 concluded at 12:30 PM for AG, ES, GG, IN, MA, MN, TF, XE, XL papers, and the afternoon shift will start from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM for AE, BT, CH, CY, GE, PH, and XH papers.
Candidates must not forget to carry their GATE admit cards along with a valid ID proof and other documents (as mentioned by the authorities) to the exam centre. To avoid any inconvenience, follow all exam day instructions as instructed by the invigilator.

GATE 2026 Exam Analysis For Shift 1
The Shift 1 analysis is out now. The GAT XE paper was easy to moderate with a few lengthy questions. Mostly questions were statement-based, and the XE paper was lengthy. The thermos section had calculative questions and was lengthy too. Students said that the GATE XE-D paper had some GATE PYQs. Fluid mechanics was tough, and a higher cutoff can be expected.
GATE Exam 2026: Students’ Feedback On Shift 1
Based on students’ feedback, the questions were mostly conceptual and required heavy calculations. The difficulty level ranged from moderate to difficult. The average range of questions was approximately between 50 and 57. Those who have practiced mixed types of questions with formulae did well in Shift 1.
GATE 2026 Shift 2 started at 2:30 PM. Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre early to complete verification and security checks before the exam begins.
