Guru Nanak Jayanti 2025: Another name of Guru Nanak Jayanti is Gurupurab or Prakash Utsav. This day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He was the first among the ten gurus and the founder of the Sikh religion. This is one of the most celebrated festivals of Sikhs, devotees celebrate it with great enthusiasm. 

Apart from commemorating the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, this day is intended to highlight his excellent teachings on honesty, equality, selfless service and practising one's hope and integrity.

Guru Nanak Jayanti: History

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the founder of Sikhism culture and is revered as the first of the 10 Sikh Gurus. He was born in Talwandi, Punjab (now in Pakistan's Nankana Sahib), he wanted to pursue a path in spirituality since childhood.

At the age of 30, he experienced a divine revelation which led him to preach a message of love, equality, and devotion to one God. His inspiring teachings and life values, recorded in the Guru Granth Sahib, laid the foundation for Sikhism. Guru Nanak's life and legacy continue to inspire millions of people with his integrity, unity and happiness.

Guru Nanak Jayanti: Significance

Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most loved and celebrated festivals in the culture and tradition of Sikhs. Guru Nanak provided a vision of equality across caste and religion, and he called for Sikhs to be fully socially engaged. There was no need to humiliate people on the basis of their caste and religion. Guru Nanak's understanding of God is summed up in the Mul Mantar. He wanted everyone to live with integrity, love and unity.
