Guru Purnima 2025: Guru Purnima is celebrated on July 10 every year, it is considered as a day that is dedicated to all the gurus, teachers and mentors who have contributed to the education system of India. Happy Guru Purnima! May the light of your guru always guide you towards wisdom and peace.

Dr Sarvepallli Radhakrishnan:

Dr Sarvepallli Radhakrishnan was one of the most influential teachers and gurus in the history of India. He was the first Vice President of India and the second President who holds the title of an outstanding academician, politician, philosopher and professor. He taught philosophy at Mysore and Kolkata universities and was also elected as the Unesco’s executive board chairman in the year 1948. Sarvepallli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888 in a small town that is situated in Andhra Pradesh. His birth anniversary is celebrated by the name of ‘Teachers Day’ to honour his contributions in the field of education.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam:

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India and a popular space scientist with stellar achievements to the list. He spent more than four decades at DRDO and ISRO, and was popularly known as the Missile Man of India. He also received appreciation for his role in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear test examinations. When he retired from his political career, he returned and worked as an educational academician and writing. He became a visiting professor at IIM-Shillong, IIM-Ahmedabad and IIM-Indore, and professor of aerospace engineering at Anna University. He was born on October 15, 1931 in Tamil Nadu.

Chanakya:

Chanakya was popularly known as Kautilya, he authored a treatise on polity called Arthashastra, which was a compilation of everything that is related to artha, or material success and property. Chanakya was considered as a wise teacher, a thinker, and even an advisor to Chandragupta Maurya. He had knowledge of medicine and astrology. He also gained appreciation for his wisdom and knowledge of human nature. Chanakya is often regarded as one of the wisest proponents of strategic thinking and leadership abilities. He was born in 350 BC and he had a memorable legacy.

Swami Vivekanada:

Swami Vivekanada had one of the main aims of social reforms. He was a famous reformer and a spiritual leader. Vivekanada joined the Brahmo Samaj to eliminate illiteracy, child marriage and propagate equality for women that was one of the biggest challengers in India that time. He was an advocate of the gurukul system of education and the Vedanta philosophy. He first gained global attention and praise with his historic final speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. He was born on January 12, 1863, Calcutta [now Kolkata], India, served as a Hindu monk, spiritual leader, preacher, and reformer in India.

Rabindranath Tagore:

Rabindranath Tagore was one of the most influential figures of Bengali literature. He was considered as the first non-European to receive the immense recognition of the Nobel Prize for Literature in the year 1913. He wrote multiple famous works and poems, that includes in his collection popularly known as Gitanjali. Rabindranath was a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, he started an experimental school called Shantiniketan, on the roots which were established by his father. He gained praise and widespread popularity for his contributions and work. He was born on May 7, 1861 in Calcutta (now Kolkata).
