IIT Madras BS Aeronautics Program: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras on Monday announced a new Bachelor of Science (BS) program in Aeronautics and Space Technology (AST). The course will be completely online and will not require candidates to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
The program was launched on February 9 through a live event attended by industry officials, including representatives from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and the civil aviation sector.
The program was launched on campus in the presence of Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, alongside the virtual presence of Dr. D.K. Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Dr. V. Sumantran, Former Chairman of Indigo airlines and other stakeholders.
Online BS Program Eligibility:
Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent, diploma holders, can apply for this course. It is designed with flexible pacing, allowing learners to progress according to set milestones. Exams will be conducted on Sundays and will include a mix of centre-based tests and online proctored assessments.
According to the institute's press statement, graduates can find good job opportunities in public-sector companies and global aerospace firms, as well as in start-ups and engineering analysis companies. Potential employers include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bharat Dynamics Limited, Mishra Dhatu Nigam, GE Aerospace, Boeing, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Honeywell, Ansys, and Siemens. Graduates will also be well-prepared for GATE and advanced degrees at IITs and IISc.
Special Features Of Bachelor of Science program in Aeronautics and Space Technology:
Online discussion boards, live tutorial sessions, and recorded lectures will all be included in the curriculum. In addition to internship opportunities, diploma-level students will work on projects that utilise techniques such as computational fluid dynamics and finite element methods. Students will do a capstone project at the bachelor's degree level that focuses on designing an airplane or spacecraft.
Depending on their academic standing, top students may also be considered for advanced degrees or on-campus programs at IIT Madras.
