The Indian Air Force made unwavering contributions during World War II and earned its ‘Royal’ prefix in the year 1945 for its outstanding service. When India gained independence on August 15, 1947, after 200 years of British colonial rule, the Royal prefix was officially removed from its name and the force was formally established as the Indian Air Force. The Indian Air Force has a proud history of playing a crucial role in some of India’s most critical conflicts.

The Air Chief Marshal mentioned all this while addressing the Air Force Officers on the 93rd Air Force Day at Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad.
