JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday announced a significant change in the national-level entrance exam for engineering courses. Notably, the optional question format in Section B will be discontinued. The format was initially introduced as a temporary relief measure during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.

With this change, the candidates will no longer be able to choose five out of 10 questions in section B. They will be required to attempt all questions without selected options.

"Since the declaration of UN World Health Organisation, WHO on COVID 19 as an end of Public health emergency on 5 May 2023, it has been decided to discontinue the optional selection of questions. The modification (adding optional question) was introduced as a temporary measure to accommodate the challenged posed during the pandemic and has been in practice till the year 2024 for JEE Main examination,” the NTA notification reads.

The NTA also announced that the application process for the first phase of JEE Main 2025 will commence soon, with detailed information to be made available on its official website. This year marks a significant change in the examination format: Section B of the papers—specifically for Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech), Paper 2A (B. Arch), and Paper 2B (B. Planning)—will now include five mandatory questions per subject.

Candidates will be required to attempt all five questions, as there will be no option to select among them. This new structure aims to streamline the assessment process and ensure a comprehensive evaluation of candidates' knowledge and skills.
