CAA News:  Following the Centre's notification of the regulations of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) issued an advisory on Monday, urging students to remain vigilant and uphold "peace and harmony" on campus. The advisory was released shortly after the announcement, as reported by the news agency PTI.

"In view of the ongoing students' election process on campus and various events being organised by the student bodies, all stakeholders of the campus are appealed to remain vigilant and contribute to maintaining peace and harmony on campus," the advisory reads.

"The administration firmly reiterates its commitment to zero tolerance towards any form of violence or indiscipline on campus and appeals to all stakeholders of the campus to desist from all such activities," it added.

In December 2019, university campuses in the national capital saw protests emerge as students voiced their opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), calling for the law's repeal.

Jamia Millia Islamia and other universities became focal points for these protests, experiencing police intervention against the demonstrators.

With the recent notification of the CAA rules on Monday, protests reignited at the Jamia Millia Islamia campus, leading to a notable increase in police presence at the university.

On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officially announced the enforcement of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), streamlining the process for granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The CAA provisions allow for Indian citizenship for six minority communities - Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Parsis - who arrived in India before December 31, 2014, from these neighboring nations.
