Mass Illness In Kerala School: A health scare has emerged in Kerala's Wayanad district after nearly 150 students of an aided upper primary school reportedly fell ill with symptoms including fever and vomiting. The incident has prompted immediate intervention from health authorities, who have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the outbreak.
Of the affected students, 38 were admitted to the hospital for treatment and observation. As a precautionary measure, authorities have ordered the closure of the school for one week while health officials conduct inspections and collect samples from the campus.
According to Health officials, there is no immediate cause for concern. As a precaution, the school has been closed for a week.
Students Developed Symptoms Over Several Days
According to officials, the affected children are students of Mar Baselios Aided Upper Primary School located in Koilady, Wayanad. Health authorities reported that students began experiencing symptoms over the last three days, with some cases allegedly dating back to June 1.
Several students complained of fever, vomiting, and general discomfort, prompting parents and school authorities to seek medical attention. One teacher from the institution has also reported health-related symptoms and remains under observation.
Hospitalised Students Stable, Special Ward Established
The District Medical Officer (DMO) stated that there is no immediate reason for public concern and assured parents that all necessary medical measures are being taken. A special ward has been established at Bathery Taluk Hospital to monitor and treat the affected students.
Officials confirmed that the condition of all hospitalised children remains stable. Medical teams are continuously monitoring the students and providing appropriate treatment to ensure a speedy recovery.
Health Department Collects Food and Water Samples
To identify the source of the illness, health officials have collected food and water samples from the school premises for laboratory testing. The samples will be examined to determine whether contamination or any other factor contributed to the outbreak.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the illness and stated that conclusions will only be drawn after receiving the laboratory reports. The findings are expected to guide further preventive measures.
Authorities Urge Calm as Investigation Continues
Local panchayat representatives who visited the hospital said that the health of the affected children is improving. The Health Department has urged parents and residents not to panic, emphasizing that the situation is under control and being closely monitored.
The incident has renewed concerns regarding school health and hygiene standards. Authorities are expected to take appropriate action based on the investigation results and laboratory findings to prevent similar incidents in the future.
