Kerala Schools Closed: In the wake of heavy rain predictions in Kerala, all schools and colleges will remain closed today, July 25 in four districts including Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Malappuram. The India Meteorological Department has predicted thundershowers in most places till July 26.
In an official statement, the district collectors said that professional colleges and schools under ICSE and CBSE will also be closed today. The educational institutes were also closed on Monday due to the heavy rainfall forecast.
However, there will be no modification in the Kannur University PSC exams schedule. Students are urged to avoid water-logged areas while traveling to the examination centers as advised by the district collectors.
The Met department has issued a yellow alert for various districts of the state including Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kasaragod apart from Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur.
After a brief lull, heavy rains have once again lashed various parts of Kerala, particularly affecting the central and northern districts during the monsoon. According to government sources, three individuals tragically lost their lives on Sunday in different incidents related to the rain, as reported by PTI. Among the victims were two minor boys, Hadhi and Hashir, from Wayanad district, who reportedly fell into a water body while on their way to a tuition class. A young person drowned in Thrissur district on the same day.
The state disaster management authority said that several relief camps have been set up in Idukki, Wayanad, and Kasaragod districts, accommodating a total of 38 individuals at present. The authority has documented numerous cases of tree felling across the state, along with damage to houses and other buildings caused by the heavy rains and floods.
