Leh School Holidays: The District Magistrate of Leh has ordered closure of all the government and private schools, colleges, anganwadi centres, and coaching centres to remain closed on September 26 and 27, 2025. This decision ensures the safety and security of the students and staff members amid the prevailing situation and ongoing unrest in Leh, Ladakh.
Closure orders by District Magistrate:
The official order for the schools and colleges closure published by Romil Singh Donk, IAS, District Magistrate of Leh, directs all the educational institutions in the district to remain closed on September 26 and 27, to ensure safety amid the ongoing violent protest.
The Chief Education Officer, college principals, and heads of educational institutions have been instructed to ensure strict closure. This order emphasises the importance of maintaining public safety.
The official declaration mentioned, ‘In view of the current situation in Leh district, it is hereby ordered that all Government/Private Schools, Anganwadi Centres, Colleges, Coaching Centres and other educational institutions within Leh District will remain closed for two days, September 26 to 27, 2025. The Chief Education Officer, Leh, ensures strict compliance with this order.’
Current Situation in Leh:
In Leh, Ladakh, people have staged protests demanding statehood under the Sixth Schedule. Protesters have been demanding statehood for Ladakh to protect their region's tribal communities. The protest turned violent and severe, and unrest resulted in four deaths and left over 50 injuries.
Several people got injured, including police personnel during the violent protest. The unrest has led to widespread damage in the district, including the torching of government buildings as well as vehicles.
Official Instructions:
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh, has been informed that the necessary actions will be taken against the culprits, while the Director of School Education and Programme Officer of ICDS Leh have been instructed to ensure safety and compliance.
