The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) confirmed that unauthorized individuals had gained access to the TET 2026 question paper, compelling officials to postpone the exam to uphold the integrity of the recruitment process.
Over 4 lakh candidates had registered for this examination. Many had traveled long distances to reach the exam centers, only to learn upon arrival that the test had been suddenly cancelled. This incident has sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra; students, opposition leaders, and political parties are drawing direct parallels between this event and the NEET-UG paper leak controversy that had previously shaken the entire nation.
Identifying the Mastermind: Bihar and Haryana Connections Revealed
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Maharashtra TET paper leak has achieved a significant breakthrough. According to the news agency ANI, the mastermind behind the leak has been identified as a resident of Bihar, while another key accused has been traced to Haryana. This indicates that the incident is not merely a local occurrence but part of an organized inter-state exam racket.
An FIR has been registered against the accused individuals. Official sources state that the SIT's investigation is proceeding rapidly, and efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are underway.
Political Uproar: Opposition Stages Walkout from Maharashtra Assembly
The paper leak incident drew sharp political reactions from across the spectrum. Congress leader Bhai Jagtap condemned the incident, linking it to broader failures within the education system and comparing it to the NEET controversy. He described it as a direct assault on the future of aspiring teachers. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam commended the government's prompt action in detecting the leak before the exam commenced but warned that the nationwide paper-leak mafia operating through coaching institutes must be eradicated across the country through stringent laws.
Opposition MLAs staged a walkout from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in strong protest. They demanded an immediate discussion on the matter in the House and a comprehensive investigation. They described it as a growing inter-state exam racket that poses a threat to students across the country.
When will the Maharashtra TET 2026 exam be held again?
Although the MSCE has not yet officially announced new exam dates, candidates can expect the re-examination to take place by the end of July 2026. The Council has assured that new dates will be announced once the SIT investigation reaches a conclusion and security protocols for the re-examination are firmly established.
