Meghalaya School Holiday: The Meghalaya government has announced a school holiday for December 12, 2025 for all private and government schools. Also, the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has postponed the practical examinations for class 11. The practical exams for class 11 will now be conducted on December 15, 2025.
Why are schools closed in Meghalaya on December 12?
December 12, 2025 is announced as a holiday in Meghalaya to observe the death anniversary of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma. The government has announced school closure for private and government schools in the state.
The official notification mentions "It is hereby informed to all concerned that since 12th December, 2025 is a State holiday, the Class XI Internal/Promotion Practical Examination 2025–2026, which was scheduled to be held on this day, shall now be conducted on 15th December, 2025.”
MBOSE Board Exams 2026 Schedule
The Meghalaya Board of School Education has also announced the Class 10 and 12 board examination schedule for the academic session 2026:
Class 10: January 30 – February 11, 2026
Class 12: February 18 – March 13, 2026
Exam Shift Timings-
Regular theory papers: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Vocational course theory papers: 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Students are advised to reach the examination centre before the reporting time. They must enter examination halls from 9:30 am, 30 minutes prior to the start of the examination.
Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma:
Pa Togan Sangma was popularly known as Togan Sangma or Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma. He was considered as a freedom fighter and giant Garo tribe leader from Garo hills in Northeast India. He was the one who led the attack when the British soldiers were sleeping but he was defeated by the soldiers because of the British army's superior weapons.
