PG Dentist 80% Attendance Mandatory: The National Dental Commission (NDC) has instructed all dental colleges and universities nationwide to ensure postgraduate dental students maintain a minimum of 80 per cent biometric attendance before being permitted to sit for university examinations.
Institutions that allow students falling short of this attendance requirement to appear in exams will be held accountable for non-compliance, as the commission moves to enforce its statutory directions more strictly across dental education institutions.
NDC Cites Statutory Directions On Attendance Compliance
The commission has made clear that no postgraduate dental student should be permitted to sit for university or PG examinations if their biometric attendance falls below 80 per cent. It has further stated that responsibility for any lapse will rest with the institution itself, since allowing such students to appear would amount to a violation of the statutory directions issued by the NDC.
Background: Earlier Directive Issued In January 2026
This latest instruction builds on an earlier order issued on January 19, 2026, when the then Dental Council of India (DCI) had first asked dental colleges to enforce the minimum biometric attendance norm for PG students. That directive followed recommendations from the DCI's Grievance Sub-Committee, which had examined complaints regarding poor attendance among postgraduate dental students in institutions across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Through this renewed directive, the NDC has reminded all dental institutions to strictly implement the attendance requirement, cautioning that non-compliant colleges and universities could be held responsible for breaching its statutory orders.
