NEET UG Counselling 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the Supreme Court on July 18, during the hearing on the NEET UG result cancellation, that the online counseling process for MBBS courses is likely to begin on July 24.

Notifications and schedules for All India Quota (AIQ) and state quota medical counseling are expected to be released shortly by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and state counseling bodies. When NEET UG counseling begins, candidates will need to log in to mcc.nic.in with their credentials to register and make their selections.

No NEET UG Re-Test, Says Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled against conducting a re-test for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 exam, stating that such a measure is not justified based on the evidence at hand.

“Cancelling the entire exam is not warranted based on established principles of this court and the evidence presented,” Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, leading the bench, stated while delivering the verdict.

The court, asserting that there was no evidence of systemic question paper leaks or other malpractices, dismissed pleas for cancellation and re-test. The bench, including Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, delivered the operative part of the judgment, highlighting the importance of the future of over two million students, with a detailed judgment to be issued later.

“There is absence of material to conclude that result of NEET-UG 2024 exam is vitiated or there is systemic breach,” the CJI stated.

During the proceedings, CJI Chandrachud noted that ordering a fresh exam would significantly impact over 24 lakh students who appeared for the test. He also highlighted potential disruptions to the admission schedule and adverse effects on the medical education system.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG), conducted by the NTA, facilitates admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country. NEET-UG 2024 was taken by 23.33 lakh students at 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 locations abroad, on May 5.
