The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a notification cautioning medical aspirants about a fake notice circulating on social media regarding the establishment of new medical colleges for the academic year 2024-25.
Clarifying misinformation about the establishment of medical colleges, the NMC clarified that it has only published the list of applications for which final decisions have been made by the MARB. This does not indicate approval for the 113 colleges mentioned. The medical body further stated that the final decision on these colleges could either be approval or disapproval. The ultimate decision will be posted on the NMC's website.
"In reference to MARB's public notice dated 6th July, 2024, it has been observed that some fake news published/aired in print/electronic media stating that Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) in its final decision has taken on 113 applications for establishment of new medical colleges for the academic year 2024-25," reads the notification.
"It is clarified that the NMC in its Public Notice dated 6th July, 2024 has published only the list of applications against which the final decisions have been taken by the MARB. Final decision does not mean approval in respect of all 113 applications. The decision may be either approval or disapproval. Such decisions have already been communicated to the medical institutions concerned. The decisions will be uploaded on the website of NMC in due course," notification added.
The NMC assured that it upholds transparency and actively promotes it in practice. Students and other stakeholders are advised to rely only on information available on the official website for accurate news. In light of these facts, all stakeholders and the general public are urged not to pay heed to or acknowledge any misleading or baseless news circulated in print or electronic media, as stated in the notice.
