NMC Guidelines for MBBS: Medical professionals are still possible career options for students who have passed their 10+2 exams with a strong emphasis on physics, chemistry, and arithmetic. An avenue for such candidates is delineated in the recently released guidelines by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Students must pass an additional subject exam in biology or biotechnology at the 10+2 level from any recognized board to be qualified.

Candidates who have included physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology, and English even as supplementary subjects after clearing Class 12 will be permitted to take the NEET-UG exam for admission to MBBS and BDS programs in the nation, as per a public notification released by the NMC.

These applicants will also be qualified to obtain an eligibility certificate from the NMC, which is a formal document attesting to their eligibility for studying undergraduate medicine overseas.

Earlier, to be admitted to MBBS or BDS programs, candidates had to complete two years of nonstop coursework in English, biology/biotechnology, chemistry, physics, and practicals during Classes 10 and 12. This was a two-year program that needed to be finished in a regular classroom, not as a "private" candidate or through an open school.

Under the former rules, students had to complete their studies in biology, biotechnology, or any other topic that was required as part of the core curriculum after graduating from Class 12. They were also prohibited from taking additional subjects after passing Class 12. The new NMC ruling has removed this restriction, giving those who want to pursue medical school a route to admission even if biology or biotechnology were not required in Classes 11 and 12.

According to the NMC, after deliberations on the subject on June 14, it was decided to loosen the requirements for NEET-UG eligibility and to grant certificates of eligibility for medical education overseas. This choice is in line with the National Education Policy's (NEP) flexibility, which permits a more flexible approach to studying a variety of courses in Class 12.
