Two sisters from a remote village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district have achieved a remarkable feat by clearing NEET 2026 despite limited financial resources, poor mobile connectivity and no access to expensive coaching. Yajnaseni and her younger sister Dibyaseni relied largely on self-study and online classes to prepare for the highly competitive medical entrance examination.
But accessing online study material was itself a challenge. With no reliable mobile network near their home in Mahulapankha village, the sisters would climb nearby hilltops whenever they needed a stronger signal. Their determination, coupled with support from their parents, helped them continue their preparation and eventually achieve their dream of pursuing medicine.

Hilltops Became Their Classroom:
For Yajnaseni and Dibyaseni, NEET preparation did not involve the conventional coaching classrooms and study centres available to many aspirants. Poor connectivity in their village frequently interrupted their access to online classes and educational resources.
The sisters therefore found an unusual solution: whenever they needed a stable mobile network, they would leave home and climb nearby hilltops to study. They told Kanak News that there was no proper mobile network near their home and that they sometimes studied on their phones until midnight.
Despite the inconvenience, the sisters continued using online classes and available study material to strengthen their preparation. Their daily routine reflected their determination to overcome the lack of basic facilities rather than allowing it to derail their ambitions.
One Cleared NEET on Third Attempt, Other on First
The sisters' NEET journeys were different. Yajnaseni cleared the medical entrance examination on her third attempt, while her younger sister Dibyaseni succeeded on her first attempt, according to reports by Odisha TV.
Dibyaseni said that there was very little guidance available to her during her preparation and credited her elder sister as her biggest guide. Yajnaseni supported and guided her throughout the preparation process.
Their success eventually turned years of effort and uncertainty into a shared achievement, bringing both sisters closer to their common dream of becoming doctors.
Parents Supported Their Dreams Despite Financial Challenges
The sisters come from a financially struggling family. Their father, Gouranga Khatua, works as a farmer, while their mother, Sunita, is an Anganwadi helper.
With limited family income, paying for private NEET coaching was not an option. However, their parents continued to support their daughters' education despite the financial challenges.
The sisters made the most of whatever resources were available to them, combining self-study with online learning whenever they could access a mobile network.
From a Remote Village to a Medical Dream
Clearing NEET is only the beginning of the sisters' journey towards becoming doctors. Their achievement demonstrates that preparation for a competitive examination can take place outside conventional classrooms when students have determination and access to even limited educational resources.
For Yajnaseni and Dibyaseni, the journey involved books, mobile phones, self-study and repeated climbs to hilltops in search of internet connectivity. Their story highlights the challenges faced by students in rural areas who aspire to pursue professional education despite limited infrastructure.
The sisters have said their ambition goes beyond simply becoming doctors. They also want to serve people who need medical care, giving their remarkable NEET journey an even greater purpose.
