Panjab University: Panjab University (PU) has published revised PhD admission standards. According to the new guidelines, individuals applying for PhD programs at PU will not be required to take the entrance exam if they have previously been awarded a national or foreign fellowship to pursue their PhD. Regular lecturers at PU and its affiliated colleges would also be exempted from the PhD admission test.
Applicants who have passed the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), the Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT), or any other national-level exam for PhD admission will be accepted for enrollment in doctorate programs. Candidates admitted to PhD programs in the faculty of engineering after completing their BE or BTech will be required to earn 20 credits in coursework. According to current standards, they must receive 12 credits. The remaining 8 credits are divided into four credits for one core department subject and one open course from the core or allied divisions of the engineering faculty, according to the PU.
Research researchers enrolled in the engineering faculty can submit their PhD summary within two years of registering for the program. According to PU rules, they can be awarded an extension of up to six months (a total of two and a half years) to submit their synopsis/approval of candidacy.
What is Procedure for PhD cancellation?
The Panjab University has also authorized a method for canceling the PhD registration of research scholars who failed to meet the thesis submission date. Department chairpersons must notify scholars of the deadline for submitting their PhD thesis three months in advance. If no notification is received from the competent department by the deadline for submission, the candidature will be regarded cancelled. The case will be forwarded to the PU vice-chancellor for final orders.
If a request for a postponement of the submission date outside the maximum time limit is received, the competent authority will consider it only if it is approved by the department's JAAC with documented grounds.
For research researchers who fail to submit their thesis within the specified time frame, the procedure of canceling PhD registration, which has already begun by the branch in question, shall proceed under the directives of the vice-chancellor.
