School Holiday: In view of the severe cold and continuously falling temperatures, the Patna district administration has taken a major decision. According to the order issued by the District Magistrate of Patna, all government and private schools up to class eight, as well as all Anganwadi centers in the district, will remain closed.
As per the notice, the new order from the District Magistrate will come into effect tomorrow, December 24, 2025, and will remain in force until December 26, 2025.
Patna District Magistrate Dr. Thyagarajan S.M. has issued an official order to protect the health of students. All government and private schools in Patna, up to Class 8, as well as Anganwadi centers, will remain closed until December 26, 2025.
For senior students in Classes 9 to 12, schools are permitted to operate only from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM to avoid the extreme cold in the early morning and late evening. However, pre-board and board examinations will be conducted according to their scheduled dates.
Patna Schools Closed: Due to the severe cold wave in Patna, all schools up to class 8 and Anganwadi centers are closed; classes for 10th and 12th grades will be held for a limited time.
The order clearly states that the extreme cold and cold wave in the district have posed a serious threat to the health of children. This step has been taken especially considering the risk of illness among young children and those enrolled in Anganwadi centers. The district administration has taken this decision using the powers vested in it under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code, 2023.
The directive issued by the District Magistrate also mentions that all types of schools and coaching institutes, including government, private, aided, and unaided institutions, will come under the purview of this order. However, examination-related activities have been exempted from this order. This means that board examinations or other scheduled examinations can be conducted according to the pre-determined schedule.
The District Education Officer, all Block Education Officers, all school principals, and Anganwadi workers have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the order. The district administration has also warned that legal action will be taken against any institution or individual violating the order.
Under the order, the district police, municipal bodies, and concerned administrative officials have also been directed to monitor their respective areas and ensure that schools and Anganwadi centers remain closed. The District Magistrate said that the weather conditions will be reviewed after December 26, based on which further decisions will be taken.
It is noteworthy that for the past few days, the entire state of Bihar, including Patna, has been experiencing a severe cold wave. The minimum temperature has been continuously dropping, causing considerable hardship to schoolchildren, especially in the mornings. Parents had also been demanding the closure of schools for a long time.
Parents have breathed a sigh of relief after this decision by the district administration. School managements have also been instructed to give top priority to the safety of the children. Currently, this order will remain in effect until December 26, and further strategies will be decided based on the situation thereafter.
