JE Education Desk: Due to Cyclone Michaung, all schools in the Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam regions will be closed on Monday, December 4. According to PTI, the Director of School Education, P Priyatarshiny, declared in a press statement that because Cyclone Michaung is likely to impact the coastal regions on December 4, all schools will be closed on that day.
According to official sources, the decision was made as part of the government's preventive measures, according to the news agency. Although there was a respite in the monsoon today, Puducherry and the surrounding regions have been experiencing severe rains for the last few days.
A low-pressure region in the Bay of Bengal strengthened into a depression on Friday and is expected to become a cyclonic storm by Sunday, December 3. The storm is projected to affect Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh but will not affect Odisha. The cyclonic storm will approach the coast between Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Chennai around December 4 evening, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Cyclone Michaung is the sixth cyclone to hit the Indian Ocean this year, and the fourth to hit the Bay of Bengal. The weather service has issued an orange signal for north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with extremely heavy rainfall anticipated on December 3 and heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for December 4. On December 4 and 5, it also issued a red alert for coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. On December 5, an orange signal was issued for Odisha, with severe to very heavy rainfall anticipated.
Due to heavy rainfall, Chennai schools remained closed on November 30. Educational institutions in the districts of Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, and Kanchipuram were also closed. Due to the severe rain, Chennai University postponed the varsity exams for the welfare of the students. For today and tomorrow, the IMD has issued an orange signal for Chennai and numerous other districts in Tamil Nadu.
