Punjab Board Exams 2026: The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has introduced the online marking system for answer sheet evaluation, following the CBSE’s rollout. Under this initiative, teachers will scan the answer sheets on the computers using the on-screen marking (OSM) system. This will ensure transparency and fairness while calculating scores, discarding the old traditional paper-based evaluation.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh said, "The state will roll out an On-Screen Marking system, making Punjab among the first state boards to adopt end-to-end digital evaluation for answer sheets.” He further added that this initiative was tested during the September 2025 supplementary examinations. Around 23,000 answer sheets were evaluated digitally.
How PSEB Online Marking Works?
The implementation of the online marking system by the Punjab Board has lessened the burden on teachers to roll out results in a specific timeline. Using this, the marks can be calculated without errors, and results can be declared within the given timeframe.
Here’s how this system will work:
1. The answer sheets will be digitised using the scanning technology.
2. For tracking and authentication, each answer sheet will be assigned a unique QR code.
3. These sheets will be uploaded to a digitalised platform. Examiners will evaluate responses online.
4. Based on the marking system, the marks will be automatically calculated.
5. The PSEB intends to implement the OSM in one subject for the matriculation examination 2026. After analyzing the results, it will gradually expand its implementation in the subsequent exam cycles.
