New RTE School Admission Rules: The Uttar Pradesh government has updated the admission process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act by removing the requirement for a child’s Aadhaar card for school enrolment. This move is aimed at simplifying the admissions procedure and easing the process for families from underprivileged backgrounds.

With the new framework, the state has revamped the admission process for unaided private schools under the RTE Act. Previously, it was mandatory for both the child’s and parents’ Aadhaar cards to be submitted during the online application process.

Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, the Additional Chief Secretary for Basic and Secondary Education, told the Times of India, "Our aim is to make living easier, particularly for families truly belonging to disadvantaged groups, aligning with the spirit of the RTE Act."

Aadhaar Required Only For Financial Support

According to the updated guidelines, Aadhaar will now only be necessary for processing financial assistance under the RTE Act. The reimbursement will be directly transferred to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of the parents.

When filling out the application form, parents will need to provide details of a bank account linked to Aadhaar. While this requires Aadhaar details for at least one parent, the child’s Aadhaar number is not needed.

An official order has been sent to all District Magistrates, who also serve as heads of the District Education Project Committees. The order specifies that admissions under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, will be limited to 25 per cent of the total intake capacity for entry-level classes (nursery or Class 1) in unaided private schools in each district.

UP School Admission Eligibility Criteria: Check Age Requirements

The revised guidelines also clarify the age eligibility for different classes:

- Children aged 3 and above but under 4 years are eligible for nursery.

- Children aged 4 and above but under 5 years are eligible for Lower Kindergarten (LKG).

- Children between 6 and 7 years of age are eligible for Class 1.

UP School Admission Verification and Allocation Process

-> Document verification will be conducted by the Block Education Officer and the Basic Shiksha Adhikari.

-> School allocations will be done through an online lottery system in two stages. In the first stage, all verified and approved applications will be digitally shuffled and assigned lottery numbers.

-> In the second stage, schools will be allocated in groups of 100 applications, based on parents’ preferences and the order of lottery numbers.

-> The final allocation list will be approved by the District Magistrate.
