School Holiday Today (Monday) Live Updates: State And City- Wise Schools Closed Due To Rainfall & IMD Alert

Milad-un-Nabi, observed nationwide on September 5, was shifted to Monday, September 8, in Mumbai and its suburbs to avoid clashing with Ganesh Chaturthi processions. As a result, all government and private schools in the city and adjoining areas observed a holiday on Monday.

In view of heavy and extremely heavy rains on 8th September, holiday has been declared in schools in Udaipur, Jalore and Dungarpur districts

Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (Mawlid) was celebrated on September 5, but the public holiday for Mumbai and its suburbs was shifted to today, Monday, September 8, resulting in schools and colleges being closed on this date.

Jammu & Kashmir Schools are shut down because of flood-damaged infrastructure. Reopening is not expected until after September 10.

Schools will remain closed for children in Punjab tomorrow too, colleges and universities will open normally.

Red alert has been issued for several districts—Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Aravalli, and Kutch—over extremely heavy rainfall.

In view of the heavy rainfall situation in Banaskantha district, all Anganwadis, schools, Colleges and educational activities tomorrow. It has been decided to remain closed on September 8, 2025.

Schools in India will remain closed on many dates in September due to religious and cultural festivals. Below is a list of major holidays:

1. September 17 (Wednesday): Onam will be celebrated in Kerala and surrounding areas. Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated in parts of North and East India on the same day, due to which schools will remain closed in these areas.

2. September 22 (Monday): Holidays will begin in states like West Bengal, Assam and Odisha with the beginning of Durga Puja and Navratri. Mahalaya will also be celebrated at this time.

3. September 29 (Monday) and September 30 (Tuesday): Durga Puja Saptami and Mahashtami will be celebrated in many states, especially in eastern and northeastern India. Schools in Delhi are also expected to remain closed on these days due to festivals related to Dussehra.

The Maharashtra government on Thursday changed the date of Eid-e-Milad public holiday for Mumbai city and suburbs. Earlier the holiday was announced on Friday, September 5, but now it has been changed to September 8.

In Jammu, continuous heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides since August 26 have forced schools to remain shut for 11 days. The Directorate of School Education, Jammu, has now directed school authorities to prepare for reopening and resume offline classes from September 10, after conducting a detailed assessment of infrastructure and safety arrangements.

A public holiday on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad was earlier declared on September 5. However, in Mumbai city and Mumbai suburban districts, this holiday was changed to September 8.

As Per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of heavy rain in Dungarpur, Banswara, Rajsamand, Salumber, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Pali and Phalodi on September 8. At the same time, there is a possibility of very heavy rain in Sirohi, Barmer, Balotra, Jaisalmer and Jalore.

Due to rain in Rajasthan also, holiday has been declared on 8th September in the following 3 districts:

3. Durgapur

Amritsar schools will remain closed on September 8 due to severe flooding in Punjab. School will reopen in September 9 except for specific areas. The Punjab floods have caused 46 deaths and damaged 175,000 hectares of crops.,

All government schools in the state will remain closed for students on September 8. Teachers will be present in schools and cleaning of schools will be done with the help of SMC, Panchayats, Municipal Councils and Corporations. School buildings will be thoroughly inspected by teachers. If any problem or defect is found, it should be immediately reported to the Deputy Commissioner of the District and the Engineering Department. After this, all government schools will open normally from September 9.
