August 2025 School Holidays: August 2025 brings a refreshing change for students across India, offering a series of school holidays after the intense academic resumption of June and July. This month provides a much-needed opportunity for learners to pause, reconnect with family traditions, and recharge their energies before the upcoming academic pressures intensify. A Month of Celebrations and Breaks:

August kicks off with Raksha Bandhan on Saturday, August 9, a day dedicated to the cherished sibling bond, particularly prevalent in North and Central India. Schools in many states observe this as a holiday, allowing families to celebrate. Shortly after, Jhulan Purnima is observed from August 13 to 17, honoring Lord Krishna and Radha, especially in West Bengal, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Bihar, with some schools closing or holding cultural events.

India's 78th Independence Day falls on Friday, August 15, a nationwide holiday marked by patriotic ceremonies before school closures. The very next day, Saturday, August 16, brings Janmashtami, celebrating Lord Krishna's birth with devotional music and dance, leading to school holidays in states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Towards the month's end, the harvest festival of Onam is celebrated in Kerala from August 26 to 28, closing schools for three days for traditional feasts and cultural sports. Coinciding with Onam, Ganesh Chaturthi on August 27 sees educational institutions in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, and Andhra Pradesh closed for elaborate idol installations and public processions.

Beyond these festivals, the Sundays of August 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 provide regular weekly breaks. It's important for families to note that regional variations and local government notifications might affect specific holiday dates.
