School Winter Holidays 2023: A strong cold has begun to sweep the country. As the winter season approaches, several state schools have begun to announce winter vacation dates. On December 23, the Uttar Pradesh Director General School Education Department (DGSED) issued information about the winter holiday.
According to the information, the council schools in all districts of Uttar Pradesh will be closed from December 31, 2023, until January 14, 2024. Students are granted 15 days off for winter vacation in this manner.
On behalf of the Director General of School Education, orders have also been sent to all district schools to give homework to the students over the vacations so that they can concentrate on their studies and the influence on the children's education is minimal.
During the holidays, the cold will be regularly monitored until January 14. If the cold persists, these vacation days may be extended. The cold wave may last until January 20, 2024.
Winter Vacation 2023: State-wise school holidays
Haryana
Along with the UP govt, the Haryana chief minister's office has also released the winter vacation date. As per the information, the state's winter break will begin on January 1, 2024, and will be concluded on January 15, 2024.
“In the context of the above subject, you are informed that winter vacation is declared in all government and private schools of the state from January 1, 2024, to January 15, 2024. Schools will be reopened from January 16, 2024 (Tuesday),” the CMO’s X post said.

Jharkhand
Due to the state's cold wave-like conditions, all government and private schools in Jharkhand will be closed from December 26 to 31, 2023.
“In view of the increasing effect of the cold wave in the state, all categories of government, non-government aided/unaided including minority schools and all private schools running in the state will remain closed from December 26 to December 31,” according to a notification of the school education and literacy department, news agency PTI reported.
“Keeping in mind the secondary and higher secondary board examinations, the concerned schools may conduct classes from classes 10 to 12 as per the requirement,” it further added.
Delhi and Rajasthan
The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has announced that winter vacation will begin in state schools on December 25, 2023. Meanwhile, winter vacation in Delhi has been shortened from 15 to 6 days and will begin on January 1, 2024.
Jammu and Kashmir
According to media reports, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is also "seriously" considering winter break for schools in the valley due to minimum temperatures plunging below freezing for the last three days.
