School Holidays Today: Schools are closed in several states today on September 5, 2025 because of theId-e-Milad (Eid-e-Milad), the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. Also, in several states of India, schools and educational institutes have been closed due to heavy rains and flood-like situations. Parents are advised to stay in touch with the school authorities.
Schools and various educational institutes will remain closed in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Division, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh because of the heavy rains and forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). According to the government orders, all the government, private schools, colleges, universities and in several regions Anganwadi centres are closed.
Due to heavy rains, floods and landslides, schools have been closed till September 7, 2025. Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh have decided to keep schools closed till 7th September, while in Jammu division schools will remain closed till 5th September to ensure the safety of students amid ongoing weather conditions.
In Kerala, all the private and government schools are closed today for the celebration of the Eid-e-Milad Thiruvonam (The most important day of the Onam festival). In Punjab, all schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed until September 7, 2025, due to severe rains and flooding. In Haryana, all the schools located in Ambala and Jhajjar districts will remain closed until today September 5, 2025, due to heavy rainfall predictions by the IMD Department. In Himachal Pradesh, schools and educational institutions will be closed until September 7, 2025, due to heavy rainfall.
In Mumbai, the holiday for Eid-e-Milad has been shifted to September 8, 2025 to avoid a conflict with the Ganesh Visarjan celebration that is currently ongoing in the city. However, schools in other districts of Maharashtra will still be closed on September 5, 2025.
